The aim of the course is to introduce the beginner in the use of Marine Radio including GMDSS.
Necessary for all users of Fixed and/or Handheld Marine Radio including: Commercial Boatmen, Sailers, Motor Cruisers, Fisherman, Anglers, Divers, Kayakers etc.

Topics Include:
- Types and features of VHF and DSC controllers on the market

- Radio telephone voice procedures
- Operation of class D DSC controller
- The correct use of channel 16
- Regulations governing the use of VHF marine radio telephone in the Global Marine Distress and Safety system (GMDSS)
- Other equipment within GMDSS
This certificate authorises the holder to use a radio telephone on the VHF international frequencies of the Mobile Marine band including channel 70 for digital selective calling (DSC). This assessment takes the form of a practical and written test.
