RYA Helmsman Course

Introducing the beginner to cruising under power and teaches personal safety, seamanship and helmsmanship to the level required to be a useful member of crew onboard a motor cruiser.

This course is usually taken over 2 days with overnight accommodation on board, however if you live locally the schedule may be arranged for you to spend the night ashore if preferred. This is an ideal course if you are considering the purchase of a motor cruiser for the first time or if you intend to help crew one.

At Trysail Sailing School we tailor each course to suit the clients we have on board. We help and encourage each of our candidates to complete the syllabus, set by the RYA, during the course and to achieve a Certificate of Competency.  Each candidate is kept informed of their progress as they learn about the boat, its handling adn the routines aboard.
