What to Bring?

This does depend on the individual and what time of year you are sailing with us. It is a good idea to try and travel light but in addition to your normal kit, there are a few things you may like to consider to make your stay with us more comfortable.

Warm Clothes – Plenty of, even in summer as evening/nights on the water do get cold.

Hat and Gloves – To keep you warm, especially on a night sail.

Thermals – Out of season a necessity, incase of a Northerly blow!

Fingerless Sailing gloves – If you have soft hands these may help you when handling the ropes.

Sailing boots – We have a small selection novices can borrow but would recommend buying your own if you plan to continue sailing.

12v mobile phone charger – ‘Cigarette Car Style’ - we can not guarantee to have a 240volt inverter onboard so if you want to keep in touch with the world, bring your car charger.

Wet wipes – We usually plan a shower stop each day, but sometimes during a course we may go a day or two without, perhaps if we are offshore or at isolated islands/anchorages.

Seasickness tablets – (just incase). Kwells are great as you can take them when you feel sick. Stugerons are OK, but you have to remember to take them a couple of hours in advance and they can make you drowsy

Ear plugs – If you’re a light sleeper, you can almost be certain that the ‘bloody snorer’ onboard will beat you to sleep! (A cheap remedy that doesn't require physical assult!)

Sleeping Bag – A good warm bag is a necessity.

Pillows - We have clean hygienic pillows onboard and give you clean pillow cases when you join us.

Passport/Visa's - If you join us for a 7+ day course there is chance we may bounce off the French coast at some point if we get the oppurtunity,  (never being one to pass up the chance of Moules et Frites and a glass of Sancerre!!).  If the course is scheduled for France, Ireland or the Channel Isles please make sure you pack you paperwork.

Alcohol – Consumption of alcohol is only permitted after the boat has tied up for the night and is at your own risk. Minors in our care will not be allowed alcohol under any circumstance.

Food – Food is provided onboard by Trysail for all meals. However if it is decided mutually to ‘eat out’ during the week, you can do so, at your own cost.

We do not provide alcohol, fizzy drinks or chocolate bars so if you enjoy a glass of wine with your meal, coke or a snickers bar it’s suggested that you bring your own.

We can cook for all diets including vegan, vegetarian, pescartarian and celiac’s. If you’re a plain eater, don’t worry, we will also make sure you are well catered for!

Andy has been a Chef for 15 years so we pride ourselves on the quality of food onboard. We use fresh local ingredients where we can, with some of the meat and vegetables coming from our Chief Instructors organic farm!

Some of our favorites include:

Chicken Breast wrapped in proscuitto with roasted squash and salad
Smoked Mackerel, leek and parmesan risotto, garlic bread
Pork Loin Steak, mustard mash, cider and apricot sauce
Lamb curry, Chapatti’s, Rice, Tomato and Onion Relish
Pan-Fried Salmon Fillet, new potatoes, green vegetables and beurre noisette.
Homemade Spaghetti Bolognese, Garlic Bread and Salad
Homemade burgers, with guacamole, relish & roasted new potatoes.
Tagliatelle with smoked salmon, creme fraiche and chives
Mixed Bean, tomoato and vegetable chilli, rice

Apple Pie and custard
Baked Camembert, caramalised onions and oatcakes
Rhubarb Crumble & Clotted Cream
Chocolate Fudge cake

Whenever we sail away from home we also like to enjoy the local produce which may include local seafood and shellfish, pate’s and cheeses.

Travel, Parking etc - You can get to us via Newquay Airport on Ryanair or Air Southwest, First Great Western Trains from Paddington or by road to our door.

We offer a pick up/drop off from Newquay Airport for only £15 each way (to cover fuel), free pick up/drop off service from local train station or free parking in Falmouth.

Getting in and out of Cornwall by road can be difficult in the summer so we would advise traveling early to beat the rush. If you want to travel a day in advance we can get you good rates at local hotels and B&B’s.

Sometimes there are opportunities to pick your boat up early due to breaks in our schedule. If this becomes an option for your charter and is mutually beneficial there is no charge. We generally make contact 24/48hrs before you charter to confirm arrangements.

If you have any other questions or require further information please do hesitate in contacting us!
